This is great, thanks for putting this together!

You do need to include some copyright/trademark notices in there though.(ViciDial, Avaya, etc...)

I didn't see any mention of the full 206-page ViciDial Manager Manual in the further reading section, do you think you could add that?

I especially like the hand-drawn "Click" with the arrow to the SUBMIT button on one of your diagrams :)

What about using 64 bit distros? I've read Matt about some issues with 64 bits!

We have some clients using 64bit distros, but it only seems to be worth it on the dedicated database server from our experience.

so far ive had good results with 64 bit versions of ubuntu on stand alone installations, one advantage is it can detect bigger ram from 4 gb above, secondly mysql and apache has a performance increase.

PAE kernel resolves issue with 32bit above 4G

mysql does seem to have an improvement, but to "feel" that improvement you would need a large enough installation that having the mysql server on a separate box is probably a good idea anyway, and then YES 64Bit for MySQL is cool (MySQL can become a MySQL Cluster and suddenly is just "there to support vicidial" and not really a "vicidial app").

have not yet noticed a marked improvement in apache with any of our 64bit installations, though

Hi boybawang,
I just had a read through your guide for dummies. As a dummy myself I welcome info of this nature. However I'm just thinking that the install seems quite lenghty for a novice with lots of potential for error. I was wondering if you could explain the difference in doing the install as described in your guide for Dummies Vs downloading the ISO image, burning to and booting from the cd. Are there any advantages?
Again I'm a dummy and just interested as it looks like I need another new install.

the best use of a scratch install method is for those adding vicidial to an already running server (or who may need to do so in the future) or for those whose Colo will not use a non-standard iso image to begin with.

Thanks William.
The Dummies guide still gives dummies like me a better insight into how it all comes together but from what your saying the only real advantage to the scrach install is for those who already have the server.

Wonder if I could pick your brian a little further. If I can?:
What machine 'make and model' would you recommend for vicidialnow.
I just need capability for 2-3 users with probably only the one logged in at a time. My H.P. pentium dual core is'nt capable (bought it sepifically for vicidial-what a waste).
I'm looking at this beast (link below) I have a USB Sangoma Timer, is there any other harware I'll need to purchase. Just want to be sure this time at the outset as I'm down nearly 2k on vicidial and don't have a working dialer.
Many thanks for the previous answer and in advance if you advise on this.

I presently recommend either Core2Quad or Core2Duo ... but that depends on the NUMBER OF SIMULTANEOUS PHONE CALLS expected (which is related to the number of agents, but cannot be calculated from the number of agents alone!)

the reason i say this is that Normally your pentium dual would be more than enough for a three person shop. seriously.

and we never use the sangoma timer, no special hardware unless you have a T1 Voice circuit requirement or a landline requirement (that takes a landline gateway)

how many simultaneous phone calls, in addition to your three agents in their meetme rooms? (at the most, peak dialing)

Hey CJ, I have a 7 users on a Pentium4 3.40GHz, (with HyperThreading enabled,) 3gigs of ram, asterisk answering machine detection, MySQL, and VtigerCRM. Most of the time the load average is actually pretty low even with all 7 agents logged on with the dial-level cranked up at 3.

Hi Boybawang

Will your multi server edition explain how to install on all the servers - Database, Web, ViciDial/Asterisk (more than one), Recorder? When will this edition be available for download? I would like to donate $100 for your contribution for what it is worth. Please provide me with your Paypal account details.

Thanks for the effort, nice manual but I spent 3 hours doing the commands one by one on a Ubuntu server I created and I was not able to get it up...

Network errors , command errors and I gave up:(

Working now on the premade Vicidialnow configurations

Donation is optional really, I will be releasing it soon, I just came from a holy week vacation, and currently busy setting up a call center somewhere.

No really, I would like to donate. A multi install document will make life much easier for many.

Hanoon, why don't you just post those errors instead of saying "I gave up"?

I followed the manual and Boybawang helped me when I got stuck.

I now have a working installation, the phone lines were connected this week, we're going to start testing/training on Monday.

I bet we have some more questions then :-)

In my case I needed to install from source because my telephony cards required me to patch some code.

My one suggestion is please include more of the commands in the screen shots as text so we can copy/paste. I know we have to understand what we're doing but I'm a bad typist.

I also purchased and read the manuals, they were really helpful, couldn't manage without them.

Thank you.

Is this ViciDial appropriate to be used in a Call Center? I wonder what this kind of software has to offer in BPO industry.

"appropriate"? it is presently in use in every call center i bump into (or shortly thereafter as soon as they find out the power and cost of it!)

As far as Business Process Outsourcing, MANY of them are already using it, but they try to hide the Vicidial name to avoid others finding out the "source" of this power.

But if you watch the news and see a call center IN the news this week ... look at the screens of the agents (even if this agent is a "work at home" ...) and you will see Vicidial.

if you change to Vicibox Redux, it has multi-server capacity directly in the installation (each server, when built, will add itself to the cluster, adds the necessary functions and data to become part of the cluster and even the necessary cron jobs are created on each box!). Just answer the questions during installation (is this server a web server? a database server? a dialer? an "add-on" dialer to an existing install?)

but the Multi-server Install manual we published is still valid and in use and works (so far) on 2.4 quite nicely. Haven't updated in a while because noone has made any suggestions for changes needed! 8)

Which would still be perfectly valid. The basic functionality of Vicidial (to make it WORK!) has not changed since 2.0.5.
