Upgrade Cluster from Vicibox 4 to Vicibox 5

Postby runderwood » Thu Oct 03, 2013 2:25 pm

Hello I've been reading about the new Vicibox 5 which comes with Asterisk 1.8 and apparently it improves the performance and it works in a better way with Sangoma CPD/Lyra, but there is no official/unofficial documentation on how to upgrade from Vicibox 4 to Vicibox 5, from what I've read I got this steps

1) Backup the Database Server
2) Install the New DB Server using vicibox 5
3) Restore the database into the new server

However I can't seem to find any information related to the telephony servers, web servers and archive.

If anyone has successfully upgrade a cluster from vicibox 4 to vicibox 5 can please provide with the steps followed and any caveats found, will really appreciated.

On the web server you would want to copy your sounds folder. It's located at /srv/www/htdocs/<random-string>. The rest of it you can just reinstall.

For the telephony servers you probably want to backup your recordings if you don't have an archive server. Then when you reinstall just copy the recordings back if you don't have an archive server.

It doesn't really matter if you use ViciBox5 on the web or database server. For what you have said it only really matters on the telephony servers.

If you were to SVN UP all your servers and then simply replace your telephony servers with freshly installed ones from Vicibox 5, you'd only need to be sure you kept the voicemail and client recordings. If you have an archive server with all your client recordings, then you can just make sure they're already offloaded before you swap out the server.

Better yet, svn up and add a single new server via 5.0.3 with asterisk 1.8 and see if it behaves any differently than the other still-running servers. You don't have to have the same on everything except the svn revision level of the Vicidial system.

Hello

I just wanted to post my experience on this, after following your recommendations, I found a couple of things that are interesting, so I added a third server with Vicibox 5.0.3, when installing the vicidial, I filled all the information about the db server, archiving server, selected that this server was going to be a telephony server, it installed correctly but it didn't detected that the server was using asterisk 1.8 and also it didn't added the server to vicibox table in the database, so I had to add the Server my self, then I had to set the Asterisk version manually from the Vicidial Manager interface, rebooted the Server and everything started to work correctly.

I upgraded all the Servers to the last svn version, then I installed my other Telephony Servers, because I have the archive Server I didn't have to backup anything other than custom configuration files for the dial plan, the same happened when installed vici, I had to manually add the servers back to vicibox table and change the asterisk version to 1.8 in the manager, restarted the servers and they are working fine.

By the way when running the vicidial installer it complains about the db server because its mysql and not mariadb and that its needed to add the settings manually.

Regards

I would love to see a cut and paste of the errors and specific requirements to the difference complaint of mysql vs mariadb and the required table additions. Sounds like it may be an easy fix (and possibly an excuse to get Kumba to put out a tiny update for 5.0.4!).

Hello William,

Unfortunately this was like two weeks ago and I didn't took an screenshot of it, but I have a backup of the database so I can try to recreate the problem with a virtual lab, will keep you posted.
