Vicibox Redux 3.0.6 Telephony Servers not added

Postby Trying » Tue Nov 09, 2010 2:40 am

Hi

I installed Vicibox Redux 3.0.6 following the clustering installation document. I see in the document that the telephony servers should show in the database, but I only see the database server in admin/servers and none of the 4 telephony servers that I installed. I did point all of them to the database IP during installation.

Another interesting thing is that on not one of the servers did SVN install and I did choose to use the latest SVN trunk. The version and build is still: v.2.4-283 Build 100929-1203. Surely that has changed since the 3.0.6 release?

If SVN didn't install, you didn't have "Net" during the installation. If you didn't have net during the installation, they could not make contact with the database server and install themselves.

I am "pretty sure" I did have net because I also upgraded the OS and it downloaded just fine. I also made sure I set all the servers' IP addresses properly after the initial os-install and did a reboot. Let me reinstall again. Maybe, or rather likely, I did something wrong somewhere. :)

Hi

There is definitely something wrong here. I started all over again with the same results. I had our IT company here who double checked all my network settings and they are fine. The servers can all ping (see) each other and the internet connection is also fine. I followed the installation document to the t. When I did a zypper refresh && zypper up after the os-install it also downloaded the latest repositories which proves that the internet connection is working.

So first I install the DB server. I chose SVN but did not see it download anything or even attempt to at all. I then installed the Web Server with the same results. If I now go into the Web Server I can see DB1 is added to admin/servers with the correct IP address. But it is still v.2.4-283 Build 100929-1203 which means it simply installs the SVN off the disc and does not download the latest. I then installed the first dialer, however still ONLY see DB1 in admin/server. The dialer is not on the server list.

Did anyone else actually do a full multi server installation using 3.0.6 with latest SVN and it worked 100%? Please help guys as this is very frustrating. (I am not sure if it is supposed to ask somewhere if you want to go online to download the latest SVN but it doesn't. It just asks if you want to install SVN and makes no mention of downloading it.)

SVN is downloading. the system does not have "svn on the disk", it may have the latest trunk as of the release of the disk, but SVN is a web-based function. so saying "use latest SVN" is you giving it permission to "go get it from the net".

It can also not be a problem with the download itself because I am using the 3.0.6 DB version for the DB and normal 3.0.6 for the rest. Meaning that if something went wrong with the download at least one disc should work properly.

if the download doesn't work, it won't work for either disk. the ability to download does not reside within the disk but is a connection between your computer and The Vicidial Group's servers. If that link is broken for some reason, a new disk will not fix it.

I would expect that your logs or some other method will be necessary to resolve why the system is not connecting as it should.

I meant maybe something went wrong with me initially downloading the 3.0.6 discs but then at least one of the two should have worked.

We ran constant pings today between our servers and to the eflo download site and there is nothing wrong with the connection at all. My suspicion remains that the Vicibox discs do not actually initiate download. That is why I asked if anyone actually installed multi servers using the 3.0.6 discs and can confirm that it did in fact download the latest SVN.

The second question also remains as to why the Dialer does not show up on the servers list but the DB does. We also pinged between the Dialer and DB before and after installing the Dialer and there are no issues.

Sorry, I haven't experienced any of these problems. We use 3.0.6 for installs and it always succeeds in getting the latest SVN download. What version/build of vicidial is on the box when installation is complete?

When doing the multi-server install, are you putting in the connection information for the database then the installer is asking for it? Or are you going into astguiclient.conf after the fact and changing it? Does all your machines have a unique hostname? Are you telling the dialers that it is not the database?

Simply telling the install disk to use SVN does not mean it connects and downloads latest SVN. It just means it uses the SVN code packaged with the disk. You need to select yes to the update option when it prompts. This will cause the disk to attempt to update the OS, download new perl modules, and download an updated SVN version.

I can't really duplicate the issue you are having. It seems like you are feeding something the wrong information.

Yes, as far as I know I am doing exactly what the document says. When the installer asks for the database information I enter the IP address, username, password. Yes, they all have a unique hostname like db1, apache1, dialer1, etc. Yes, I tell the dialers that they are ONLY telephony servers and not web or db servers.

You need to select yes to the update option when it prompts.

This is the interesting part. I can remember the prompt "use SVN" but I cannot remember seeing an update prompt at all. I will check again.

Don't enter a username or password for the database. This is set to use the defaults. Just enter the database IP.

I've installed many times and Never update the OS (reflex: that function used to crash the install! LOL). But I always get latest SVN. Are you sure that was the only difference? (Have you tried not updating the OS again to see if that breaks SVN again?)

I have installed again but yet again the Dialer is not showing in admin/servers. Here is the install:

By default, all new installs of ViciBox have the firewall enabled.
You will either need to disable the firewall or open up ports in order to do
multi-server configurations or access services externally. Unless this server
is going to be directly connected to the internet we recommend disabling the
firewall.

Would you like to turn the built-in firewall off? (y/N) : y

ViciDial currently has two standard codebases. Version 2.2.1 is the latest
stable release of the software. There is also the SVN Trunk branch which
includes any new features and/or bugfixes. Any custom development or other
bug fixes done after the last stable release will be in SVN Trunk. We
normally recommend our customers use the SVN Trunk code base.

Do you want to use the SVN Trunk codebase? (y/N) : y

ViciBox can be installed in varying rolls depending upon your needs.
The following questions will ask you what role this particular server
is to play within your environment. If this server is NOT acting as the
DataBase then you need to wait until the Database server is up and
properly provisioned. This install WILL FAIL if the database is not
installed and provisioned prior to this installation. Please have the
DataBase IP available to complete the install.

Will this server be used as the Database? (y/N) : n

Will this server be used as a Web server? (y/N) : n

Will this server be used as a Telephony server? (y/N) : y
---> Is this an additional telephony server in a cluster? (y/N) : y
---> Do you have a Sangoma T1/E1 card installed? (y/N) : y

Your ViciBox Redux system will be configured as follows:

OS Update : y
Stop Firewall : y
Use SVN Code : y
Install Core DB : n
Install Web App : n
Install Telephony : y
- Additional Server : y
- Install Wanpipe : y
- Install Voicetime : n

If you plan to install and boot from a new kernel you will need
to recompile libPRI, DAHDI, Wanpipe, and Asterisk after installation.

The system will give you instructions as it progresses on certain key
combinations to enter for proper installation. This installer will
automatically pause at those instructions.

Looks like you updated to latest svn trunk, but you didn't update your DB

I wonder what I missed. For the DB I used the DB cd and installed it exactly the same way as with the other cd so the SVN should have updated. I guess I will have to reinstall again. :)

No, update your ViciDial DB schema, not the DB software itself.

I updated the DB schema:

Version: 2.4b0.5
DB Schema Version: 1252
DB Schema Update Date: 2010-11-13 12:20:17
Auto User-add Value: 101
Install Date: 2010-02-08

The dialer is still not showing in admin/servers. Should I just add the other servers manually? Any advice will be highly appreciated.

If entries are not there then you need to add them, as well as vicidial_conferences for each server.

I am almost ready to give up  I updated the DB schema and then tried to add the dialers manually but it does not accept the default MySQL password when I want to add phones and conferences: ERROR 1045 (28000): Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: YES) - During the installation I went with the default username and password.

Thinking that I perhaps did something wrong updating the schema I yet again (must have been at least 10 times now) installed Vicibox 3.0.6 on all our servers. Yet again the schema doesn't show in server settings and none of the dialers are showing in admin/servers. Also, yet again, the default MySQL password is not accepted when I want to configure the servers manually.

It is probably something very obvious that I am missing somewhere. If you think the only way is for me to request for consultation then I will continue there.

use cron and 1234 for password on the mysql

then add the entries for conferences.

Here's what I use.

Change the ip and the phones when adding additional servers.

Hi Op3r

Thank you for the response. That is exactly what I did. I used William's load balance document - I installed a couple of servers successfully in the past from it. The problem is that during the installation I do confirm the default username and password of cron and 1234 it gives a wrong password error. I am going to install the DB today from the 32bit disc and see if that makes a difference. It seems I always get the weirdest problems :)

I'm not able to duplicate this issue. There is a good chance that the order of which things are being done or something being typed in is wrong, but without seeing what you are doing I don't really know.

after reading some of your post here it seems you have a broken database and cant login to mysql.

change the root password like this

mysqladmin -u root password NEWPASSWORD

then rebuild your vicidial database by using the upgrade database sql for the version you are installing.

You are a star! Immediately my dialer also popped up in admin/servers. I just wonder why it kept breaking after I retried the installation so many times. When it came to db username cron and password 1234 I just entered to accept the default values.

Do I only have to run \. /usr/src/astguiclient/trunk/extras/upgrade_2.4.sql in MySql to rebuild the database to the very latest SVN?
