Seats/Setup Recomendation

Postby saif.rahman » Fri Jan 30, 2009 7:56 pm

Hi everyone !

i have been using vicidial for some time with 5-15 agents logged in. Now we are planning to increase seats in our callcenter for that we have purchased a
- DellPowerEdge 2950 quad core , 3.0 GHZ , 5 SAS Harddisk (with RAID-10) , 16 GB RAM .
- Two T1/E1 Digium Cards
- AudioCode Gateways (8 E1 Enabled)
- will use a Seperate DB & Webserver ( will be a blade server)
- Agents are logged in via SIP softphones having ULAW/ALAW codecs, zap trunks will be used for Dialing.

Requirements
- Recording all calls
- will use RAMDISK for recording ( As per Scrath Install)
- Max Dial level will be 3 to 4.

Questions
- How many agents this server can handel?
- How many simultenous SIP ---> ZAP calls can be made? Also including the Transcoding as well .. like at agent level only ULAW & ALAW are used and at the AudioCode Gateway if i use G729 ... then the Transcoding of Ulaw --> G729 will add the CPU load ?
- Is this setup is good to go othewise you help in this regard is highly appreciated.

Thanks

Is the original server included in this?

What kind of Digium cards?

Did you only purchase one additional server?

No the present server is not included in this. Plan to setup on the New Server.

What kind of Digium cards?

TE420P ( Two cards)

Did you only purchase one additional server?

Right now, Yes . ( i.e. Newly purchased server is DellPowerEdge). will use the Blade server ( 4 GB RAM, two 73 GB SCSI Harddisks) as a WEBSERVER & DB.

Even if you were only doing transcoding on this server you probably wouldn't be able to do more than 180 channels Zap -> G729. If you throw dialing and recording into that it just lowers the capacity.

If you are not transcoding you could probably have 40 agents on this server if the webserver and database are seperate machines.

You can use either a softphone or a hardphone.

UPDATE :

right now we have three ViciDial Server with One DB and One Web Server. The things are going smooth for us.

Matt!! can Asterisk Business Edition will be helpful in doing more concurrent calls. As they already offering upto 250 concurrent channels. would that be possible while using the VICIDIAL???

Thanks

I'm glad everything is going well for you. As for ABE(Asterisk Business Edition) that is actually a 250 channel restriction, not a 250 call capacity. We generally do not recommend using ABE because you do not have access to the source code and cannot patch the problems with Asterisk like the waitforsilence app taht is broken in ABE, or the shortened meetme sounds.

if the technical support of ABE commits that they can able to apply such patches then would it able to do 250 concurrent calls in vicidial architecture?

because right now as soon as there are more then 50 - 60 concurrent calls i got the voice issues while the load is too minimum.

I think you missed my point that the ABE license restriction is not for 250 CALLS, it is for 250 CHANNELS, those are two very different things.

using ABE will not help your audio issues.

What zaptel timer are you using right now?

yeah i really missed your point because of the fact on the digium site they prompt for like 250 concurrent calls there is nothing like channels any how i got your point.

the answer of your question is wct4xxp (TE420)

Asterisk should certainly be able to handle more than 60 concurrent calls.

What exactly are the issues that you are experiencing?

Not really sure then, check that your zaptel modules is loaded and that you have your zaptel card loaded and showing up in Asterisk.

calls are going out from zap channels ( cards connected to Voice Gateways) and also cards are loaded successfully and are shown correctly.

one more thing there are some calls connected with dead air it happened on vicidial and also on normal asterisk server both inbound/outbound. it also happens when there is only few agents on the server while the load is too low. the problem related to Asterisk ?

I would guess that yes it is an Asterisk problem.
