Scratch Installation: Compiling Linux kernel 2.6.17

Postby cire_08 » Wed Jul 16, 2008 11:16 pm

Hi Everyone,

I finished compiling linux kernel 2.6 up to editing the lilo.conf and run the lilo reload script. The problem was after I restarted my Slackware Server, it doesn't boot, the monitor just turned into blank and nothing happens.

Please advice.

thanks,

Check the drivers you are using and make sure you have all of the drivers selected that you need. Also, check you video resolution settings when you install, I usually set to the minimum so I will be sure that I will have no display problems on any monitor.

Hi!

Thanks Matt for your prompt reply.

Sorry I'm newbie in linux, my problem now is how can i check the drivers and the resolution of my PC if my server doesn't boot. Is there any way to restore my previos settings?

You should still have your existing bigkernel that is installed by default, just put that back in the /etc/lilo.conf file (you can edit that by booting from the install disc)
