Not sure what the cause of that would be. Does the admin.php page come up?

What versions of Apache/PHP?

Interesting. Did you select a language other than English when you installed Slackware?

Shouldn't be a problem, although PHP 4.4.8 is out now with some bug and security fixes.

That is very odd, I have used several versions of Apache recently, including 2.0.61, and everything worked fine for me.

You can also try changing this line:
Code: Select all
# Copyright (C) 2008  Matt Florell <vicidial@gmail.com>    LICENSE: AGPLv2

to this:
Code: Select all
# Copyright (C) 2008  Matt Florell vicidial@gmail.com    LICENSE: AGPLv2

There is a bug in PHP that can sometimes mistake that as a short tag.

One time I had something similar happen and the only way to fix it was to delete every trace of php and apache(httpd) from the system, download new source and recompile both from scratch.

you need to set php as an application in the httpd.conf file and restart apache

I did exactly the same as per scratch where it says to add

"AddType application/x-httpd-php .php .phtml"
"LoadModule php4_module libexec/libphp4.so"
or
"LoadModule php4_module modules/libphp4.so"

I guess by default "LoadModule php4_module modules/libphp4.so" is already there so I never put the above 2 lines

But I have this error also that comes when i start the apache but apache runs anyway and I type the ip address

98)Address already in use: make_sock: could not bind to address 0.0.0.0:80
no listening sockets available, shutting down

Did you make sure that apache was not running before trying to start it again?

Yes it was httpd was stopped

Is there something wrong with php

I am using http-2.0.59 with php4.4.7

Is this the factor?

What may be other reason why I dont get to get the php sites running.

It all comes in code form

If is comes up in code form then it is not parsing it as PHP. Do any other PHP scripts work at all?

I think something I have dont wrong in this

vi /usr/local/apache2/conf/httpd.conf
add the following lines:
"AddType application/x-httpd-php .php .phtml"
"LoadModule php4_module libexec/libphp4.so"
or
"LoadModule php4_module modules/libphp4.so"
modify the index.html line and add index.php to the list

Questions:

Obviously I have used"LoadModule php4_module modules/libphp4.so"

so dont need to put the 2 line code.

this is where I placed index.php

#
# DirectoryIndex: sets the file that Apache will serve if a directory
# is requested.
#
# The index.html.var file (a type-map) is used to deliver content-
# negotiated documents. The MultiViews Option can be used for the
# same purpose, but it is much slower.
#
DirectoryIndex index.html index.php

Make sure you have this line in there:

AddType application/x-httpd-php .php .phtml

The index.php is optional.

found the solution.

U will be surprised as well

in scratch install it says:

add the following lines:
"AddType application/x-httpd-php .php .phtml"
"LoadModule php4_module libexec/libphp4.so"
or
"LoadModule php4_module modules/libphp4.so"

Now what I understood is whether u put the first two lines or just the last line.
but after observing first line must me placed coz thats a must and the "or" applies to the 2nd ("loadmodule.....) line and the last line.

So when I put "AddType application/x-httpd-php .php .phtml"
LoadModule php4_module modules/libphp4.so"

it works.

So there was misunderstanding my end.

Thanks matt
