New server requirements

Postby jpr6611 » Fri Oct 05, 2007 7:22 pm

I am setting up a 90 seat center that will be handling both outbound and inbound calls. We will doing some call recordings, but not 100%.

I am on a limited budget, but I don't want to make a mistake on hardware trying to save some $.

I had a question about the server requirments-

I understand that for my servers I will have 1 Apache/MYSQL server and then 1 server for each +-24 reps on the phone.

For the Apache/MYSQL server-
What type of processor is best? AMD or Intel?
Dual Xeon processors?, Core Duo? Core 2 Duo? etc
Do I need Quad processors?
Is 4 gig ram enough?
Harddrives? SATA VS. SCSI? Is there a difference in performance?
What type of raid? How big should the HD be?
1U, 2U etc? What open slots will I need?
PCI, PCIx?

4 Vicidial/Asterisk servers-
What type of processor is best? AMD or Intel?
Dual Xeon processors?, Core Duo? Core 2 Duo? etc
Do I need Quad processors?
Is 2 gig ram enough?
Harddrives? SATA VS. SCSI? What type of raid? How big should the HD be?
1U, 2U etc? What open slots will I need?
PCI, PCIx

Digium cards-
We are going to be using Voice T1s for long distance
Will TE405p cards work? (or te410p if 3.3 pci hardware)
or do I need TE412P cards with echo can.
(Is a TE411P just as good as the TE412P?)

For 90 seats I would recommend the following:

4 Dialer servers:
- 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 1GB RAM
- Digium TE405P or Sangoma a104 Quad T1 card

1 Web server:
- 2GHz Intel P4 with 1GB RAM
- Apache/PHP/eaccellerator

1 Database server:
- 2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4GB RAM
- SCSI RAID 10 with SCSI drives at 15k speed

There are a lot of different hardware configurations that could work, but the above is proven several times and the parts are typically easily available just about anywhere.
