Fedora C4

Is it complicated to install Vici Dialer on Fedora C4. The Scratch Intsall uses Slackware 10.2 as an example.

If we want to use Fedora C4 - Do we have to do anything different, ie, during the OS installation, or Asterisk and Zaptel installation?

Has anyone tried this on Fedora? If yes, what has been the experience?

Several people have installed VICIDIAL on FC4. Slackware is recommended because it has less "junk" installed with it and is easier to optimize than FC. Just make sure you do a server install with no Xwindows(no Gnome or KDE either)

You should be able to follow the SCRATCH_INSTALL for almost everything.

Wanted to check a few things before we begin the installation on Fedora C4:

1. Do we need to have a machine with Motherboards that have Via Chipsets for Linux OS. Someone who deals in Hardware had mentioned it.

2. Do we need Pentiums or would Celeron with 40 GB and 512 RAM would be ok to test this out for 5 Agents?

3. Do we need to do Phase 2 of Scratch Install or should we start at Phase 3. Does Fedora C4 require the Compilation of a CUSTOM LINUX KERNEL?

4. Using MySQL version 4.0.X:

It says in Scratch Install that we need to make sure that we use the 0.08 version of the Net::MySQL perl module. Does Fedora C4 come with a higher version or can we install this version in it?

Please let us know if we need to make any changes that maynot be reflected in the Slacware Installation in Scratch Install.

Appreciate your feedback.

Have you ever used command-line Linux before?

You should avoid using Via processors(CPU) if you want to use Asterisk.

a 2GHz Celeron should be able to handle 5 agents.

You should not have to compile a custom kernel, but it can help performance on some systems if you do.

No Linux Distro comes with Net::MySQL preloaded, you need to get 0.08 from CPAN.

Make sure you do not load Xwindows(Gnome or KDE) if you want to use Asterisk.

All of my systems are FC4 and I have no problems with it. If you run into specific issues let me know maybe I can help out..

Scratch Install works fine for FC4

Would it be better to use Fedora Core 5 rather than Core 4? Does Core 5 make the installation go any smoother?

Thanks

I have not used 5 but 4 works fine, I have 3 servers running FC4 and they run great.. (took a lot of tuning and what not) but its purring now.
