Sangoma UT50: VoiceTime: USB Voice Synch Tool

Postby Op3r » Mon Apr 13, 2009 11:56 am

I found this at Sangoma.

The description was "Use this simple USB Clock to synchronize IP signals when you are not running PSTN hardware. It provides accurate clock timing for Asterisk and CallWeaver. FreeSWITCH support coming soon."

Have anyone tried this on production to replace x100p?

Any reviews? Im thinking about having this as a requirements to all my clients.

We have put about 30 of these in production and they work great. They are actually a hardware replacement for ztdummy that uses the zaptel ztdummy hooks to provide timing. There is also a version with internal USB headers so you don't have a dongle sticking out.

We also are a Sangoma reseller and we sell these directly to end-users if you are interested.

Can you "quantify" the improvement in reliability in some way? (We didn't notice a timing issue until we got to 47 agents instead of 37 agents ... ?)

That's pretty much it, about 10 agents more on average of average agent usage. About on par with system that have PCI or PCIexpress Sangoma cards in them.

For 1 unit we charge $70 + shipping. If you buy enough we will get the price down as far as $60 per unit + shipping.

Hm. 10 more agents on a box for $70. Beats paying for licensing. Pretty cheap even for linux. Cool.

Is it plug it&continue dialing or needs a driver/recompiling/changing something?
Couldn't find any installation instructions on Sangoma's web site.

It requires compiling and drivers and all that fun stuff. I believe that the instructions are on Sangoma's Wiki site:

Oh, thanks, searched with wrong keyword.
Install doesn't seem that painful.

I read :
For best operation use a 2.6.25 or newer Linux kernel. The USB sub-system has changed drastically and earlier kernels are not as stable
Have you tested or do you have good results with older kernels, like 2.6.18 for example? We have 3 boxes- 2 using ztdummy and 3rd which is purely used as an IAX trunk with TE412P. All 3 are with 2.6.18-6 kernels.
No sound or timing issues so far, but for the money this might be wise upgrade if would help in future and doesn't require to upgrade kernels etc.

Pretty much all of our installs with these have been on newer kernels using either Ubuntu or OpenSuse so I can't really give you an Answer on that one.

Hi Matt

Do you still sell this sticks as Sangoma reseller?
If yes, I would be interested to buy 3 for start and, if they work as expected, several later.

Waiting your response.
